Livingston police charged a local man with DWI after he crashed his vehicle into a police car on Interstate 45 early Saturday morning. No injuries were reported in the accident. Earlier, another man was killed in Houston Friday night when his vehicle struck a concrete wall after driving at a reported high rate of speed through a construction area. Officials have not yet reported whether alcohol was involved in the Friday evening wreck.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports more people die on U.S. highways more than in any other mode of transportation. In 2012, there were 33,561 deaths in motor vehicle accidents – which account for more than ninety percent of transportation related deaths. Of the 33,561 motor vehicle fatalities, more than one-third involved alcohol impaired drivers. According to the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety, one out of seven drivers admit to driving when they thought they were at or over the legal blood alcohol concentration limit.
