Car and Truck Accident Highlights
Wrecks in the Houston Area
As in previous years Harris County in Houston leads all counties in Texas with a total of 420 fatalities. For those who were injured in car accidents in Texas, 11% occurred in Harris County.
Young Drivers Continue to be the Most at Risk
Drivers aged 18 to 34 had the highest number of fatalities in 2016. Male drivers were over 3 times more likely to loose their life when compared to female drivers.
These statistics continue to highlight the need to ensure that young drivers operate their vehicles in a safe manner. Distracted driving, texting, speeding and aggressive driving are leading causes of these fatalities.
Many of these accidents could have been prevented if the driver made safety their primary concern.
Texas Peace Officers will complete crash report when they are responding to and investigating a car accident. These forms, known as a CR-3 include sections for the officers to note numeric codes that represent the contributing factors in the accident.
Based on these crash reports 455 people died and 3,086 suffered incapacitating injuries due to distracted driving.
Unfortunately, activities such as texting or talking on a phone while driving are the cause of these accidents. Injuries and deaths resulting from distracted driving are by their nature entirely preventable.
When Do Accidents Occur?
Historically, October has featured the highest incidence of car accidents. Statistics show that the majority of accidents occur on Fridays and continue over the weekend.
As has been the case in previous years, most car accident fatalities occur on Saturday and Sunday mornings between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 am. Undoubtedly many of these accidents are a result of drunk drivers. If you have been injured, contact Michael P. Fleming and Associates, today!
